No, sorry:

For all of the folks in Facebook who invite me to participate in a game: Sorry, don’t have the time to play them, and I distrust a lot of the join-this stuff in Facebook anyway. For all the folks anywhere who invite me to events out of town (Chicago): Sorry, too laid up after the [...]

Reflections on the process:

As you can imagine, the champions (my Mere and her pairs partner Eric) are in seventh heaven – as I write this, Susan and Mere are on their way home to us, bearing a new gold medal.   And, of course, all their stuff. The last year, in dealing with Mere getting serious on roller-skating competitive [...]

FIRST PLACE!!!

Meredith and Eric took first place at the National Championships with a flawless, beautiful performance… stunned the people online and the commentators with **OMG WHO ARE THESE GUYS!!!** reactions. They can’t go to World Championships until the elder is 14, which is next year. But my god, they were the best I’ve ever seen them, [...]

Mere and the National Skating competition, part 1:

28 July, 2010 (22:40) | meredith, nebraska, photography, roller-skating, susan, travel | By: jrittenhouse

Susan has been posting on a photo blog about her and Mere’s trip to the National Roller Skating event for the last few days: Mere’s been practicing every day at least once, and kept a very busy schedule.  Her big event is Thursday night at 9:30 pm Central Daylight Time; you can catch her and [...]

Last Day Out:

Went to the podiatrist/surgeon on Monday, and he’s leaving in the stitches for longer – I’m a slow healer, and there’s a couple of small gaps in the thing. He’s switched over to a much smaller bandage thing, essentially enough to cover the incision, and has to be redone every day with special silver gel [...]

Prepare for jump (lutz):

Susan and Meredith are supposed to leave tomorrow in the morning for Lincoln, Nebraska, to the roller-skating National competition, and they will have to work really hard to be ready by then. I worry about Susan burning the candle at both ends mentally and physically with this trip, but there’s darn little I can do [...]

More updating:

At the present, my LEFT foot surgery has been rescheduled for the 5th of July; hopefully nothing else will blow that out of the water.  My RIGHT foot – well, went to see a podiatrist on that, and he took new X-rays of my foot that show how crippled up it looks (which never fails [...]

Skating Away:

12 June, 2010 (10:55) | family, friends, meredith, ohio, parenting, personal, roller-skating, sports, susan, too-darn-much-to-do, travel | By: jrittenhouse

We now have the schedule for Mere’s events in Cincinnati, (pdf) and it basically rotates around the following: We have to leave VERY VERY early Friday the 25th to be there at the arena by 9 in the morning (ick) – Mere has practices for each of her events from 10 to 6, and then [...]

Circular motion, redux:

11 June, 2010 (13:43) | CLL, doctors_nurses, drugs, family, health, health_care, hospital, medications, meredith, ohio, pain-ow, parenting, surgery, susan, too-darn-much-to-do, travel | By: jrittenhouse

(1)  The surgery on my LEFT foot is still hanging fire, but this time, it’s because the various docs who had to give me clearance didn’t do so (first due to a goofy EKG that showed up nothing in a stress test, and then due to a white count that is pretty comparable with what [...]

Out:

14 February, 2010 (23:46) | adoption, automobiles, china, dayton, ohio, personal, travel, weather | By: jrittenhouse

Going off to the Dayton trip tomorrow (Monday) morning, coming back by dinnertime Thursday.  Apparently, there’s going to be a ton of snow (6-8 inches) hit Dayton tomorrow, and I’m really not thrilled about having to do a long drive through snow…will check this carefully in the morning.  Expect some reports on the road from [...]

I’ve been asked to speak at a Wright State University forum; their Honors Institute is having a symposium on Chinese-American relations called “Connecting With China”,  and I’m to talk on “Exploring Issues in Cross-Cultural Adoptions” from 2-4 pm, February 17th. The event is free to the public, but you have to register in advance to [...]

The new lead musicians for a Birmingham, Alabama rock band….Meredith Grace and Meredith Ellen. Boom tada Boom Boom! Mere is due back today on a 5:30ish flight. I’ll be putting up a set of photos and stuff on Duckon and her vacation with her sister’s family shortly.

The short end of it is that Susan, Meredith and I will be totally occupied with a Seekrit Project from about dinnertime Thursday to Friday evening (the first night of Duckon). Mike Harrington is flying in on Friday morning from Birmingham to be Duckon’s Science Guest of Honor, along with his daughter Meredith Ellen, and [...]

Everyone’s home:

Susan and Meredith got home at dinnertime tonight from their trip to Kansas City, and the weeklong separation was over – and I think Susan and Mere are wiped.  I’ve een taking it *very* easy myself; got the scanner up and running yesterday, but trying to stay off my feet as much as possible.   It’s [...]

Just a quick note:

Getting ready for the trip out tomorrow morning; I’m tired and it’s only 7:45 pm – and I still have a lot to do. Susan and I were taking care of things that Had To Be Done before we could go, rather than the actual packing. This included planting the asparagus, which we hope makes [...]
