New Years:

What I can mention is that the New Year’s Party was a good time, though a little frazzling.    I also spent a good deal of the day in the library with Rich Rostrom, who stayed over and was helping me with getting all of my stuff out of the closet under the stairs in the [...]

House of Saddam:

HBO production and presently running on that network.  My take on it is that it’s a once-funny;  I have a hard time watching gangster movies because I really don’t get off on people beating and killing each other, especially if the people involved doing the beating are serious scum.   This is SOPRANOS GO BAGHDAD; [...]

Enough with the Retconning:

*glyph of annoyance*and another*
*notice of attempt to retcon Anne of Green Gables with a made up new origin*
*Or when they retconned the USS Rittenhouse into mad Admiral Rittenhouse who wanted to rule the universe in Star Trek fiction - aaargh*

Organization, Software:

There’s been a big push here to organize the tons of CDs and DVDs in the house that are home-made - DVDs off of the TiVo, of course, are the big item, but there’s a ton of outdated software stuff around, and I’m tired of scratching for things when I need them.
All of the software [...]

Zoned TV:

Published by jrittenhouse under television, tivo

The household seems to have totally dropped out of interest in serveral TV shows that we used to be highly interested in.   HEROES, for instance, got to the ‘oh, jeeze, this is ridiculous’ level in bizarre plots. The reality shows endlessly cranked The Formula, and we got tired of that.  I dropped off of CRIMINAL [...]

Word Problems #1:

Lawrence Welk and his band doing ‘One Toke Over the Line’ on his show.  A new, modern spiritual, don’t ya know.
Inigo Montoya: You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

General update:

Yes, I will be at Windycon over the weekend.  I’ll be not-very-mobile. I’ll probably locate a prime lurking post and hang there a lot.  Mere will be with me.
The docs took out the last of the foot stitches, and the wound has come open again, about an inch worth.  The docs and Susan are [...]

An Englishman In New York:

Published by jrittenhouse under UK, gays, humor, television

A sequel to THE NAKED CIVIL SERVANT is in production for UK’s ITV in New York.  I loved the original, and with John Hurt reprising the role of Quentin Crisp, this should be pretty good.

It takes a man to suffer ignorance and smile,
Be yourself no matter what they say.

Dad’s on the telly and he’s supposed to be dead:

Published by jrittenhouse under UK, television, weird

BBC story about a man who was seen on the TV by his family years after he was supposedly found dead and cremated.  Turns out that when he went missing in 2000, he ended up in a rest home, too out of it to remember much, and he’s been there since, and the cops screwed [...]

And that’s the way it is:

TV Land on cable is doing a set of great catchphrases on TV over the years (special on this is in December).  Here’s part of the list, with the ones I know well bolded (mostly showing how old I am):

A thing is a phallic symbol if it’s longer than it’s wide:

BBC report about Australian aborigines being upset about a how-to-play-the-digerridoo book for girls; apparently some folks consider the instrument a male-only device.
BTW, Mere is fascinated by a new Aussie tween series called Double Trouble; it’s the old sepatated twins story as per Parent Trap. but in this case, the twins are part Aborigine, with one [...]

DNC notes #2:

Good article on Rachel Maddow at the NY Observer.
This is a weird way to advertise MSNBC.
Possibly the least flattering Hillary picture ever.

MSNBC does good:

Gives Rachel Maddow her own show right after Keith Olbermann.  This should be good….yes, Virginia, out Lesbians can host a national news show on TV.
“You mean when I started working on AIDS in prisons, was this where I thought it would end up? Yeah. This is pretty much it. Phase forty-seven of my master plan.” [...]
