Gonzo as victim

..of the Bush administration, a casualty of the war on terror, troubled and victimized soul that he is.

What-me-regulate?

Under Bush, OSHA backed off regulating business in a major way, because business might not like for them to support worker safety…and OSHA paid more  GOP-related consultants for doing little.
In 2006, Henshaw was replaced by Edwin G. Foulke Jr., a South Carolina lawyer and former Bush fundraiser who spent years defending companies cited by OSHA [...]

That might be flashy, but there’s far worse:

From Dick Meyer at NPR on Blago and Made-off:
As audacious as Blagojevich’s political gluttony is, it is easy to find far worse political corruption, much of it perfectly legal: Distorting intelligence to invade Iraq, torturing prisoners, failure to regulate Wall Street, and systematic pork-barrel boondoggling come quickly to mind. If you’re feeling expansive, how about [...]

It catches up with you:

Hedge Fund founder who lost a serious bundle in the Madoff ponzi scheme commits suicide, and no, he didn’t jump out a window.
The radical Israeli settlers in the West Bank are a political nightmare that any government will have serious problems with and neither main party coalition wants to deal with.  Of course, government policies [...]

One last gasp:

Published by jrittenhouse under GOP, idiots, obama, politics

Joe the Plumber says now that being on the campaign trail with McCain appalled him, but (1) he thought Obama was worse, and (2) the only bright spot on the campaign trail was Goshdarnit Winky.  So much for his judgement…

I don’t think so:

Various Illinois politicos are asking for a pardon for former Governor George Ryan, whose corruption in office led to a lot of people in jail and several deaths.  One paper wrote: “Instead of selling license plates, [Ryan] gets to make them.”
Otherwise, Ryan will stay in jail till 2013.
Good.  Let him rot there.

County map from the 2008 election:

http://images.newsmax.com/misc/2008_Election_Map.jpg
And this one shows the change of color - er, votes in this election versus the last one in the state of Ohio - the bluer the county gets, the more it moved to the Democrats, and the redder, the more that county moved to the Republicans.  The northwest went more Democratic, the area just [...]

Alaska Senate settled:

The AP and others are now declaring Mark Begich, the Mayor of Anchorage (D), has beaten Senator Stevens for the Alaska Senate seat.  The margin is too wide for a free recount, and it’s unlikely that the GOP will pay for it or Stevens can - or that it would make any significant difference.
The recount [...]

Update on the counting(s):

Alaska Senate: 221,173 votes were already counted; a new estimate shows that the uncounted votes there are around 90,600 - about 30% of the total!  (PDF with the details as to what sort of votes and from where)  And this isn’t complete; absentee votes are still trickling in in the mail.  They’ll start counting these [...]

A little resistant to the idea:

One area of the country was particularly resistant to the idea of an Obama Presidency, and to recent Democratic runs…  Graphics after the cut (from the NYT)
