Yechh:

Possibly the most annoying and rude commercial I’ve seen in a while; it doesn’t sink in as to what’s going on until the end.  Aaaaargh.  (NSFW, really mostly crass as heck, and it sure helps if you know the slang reference to the anatomy.)

Update:

The snow wasn’t as bad as advertised; we ended up with maybe 4-5 inches, but really sloppy wet stuff that was a pain to shovel, according to the shovellers.   Kurt and John are here, but Kurt is *really* tied from a very long week at work.    Mere had a snow day, and did Mere [...]

My Eyes! Aaaak!

I have been having a LOT of problems with my eyes recently in regard to reading things, and set up an appointment a while back with the eye doc that the rest of the family sees.  (I’m the only one who didn’t need glasses to function; Susan had LASIK surgery a while back, and does [...]

Dog home:

The pancreatitis has died down enough to bring Dot home from the vet’s office / animal hospital, and while she’s still shaky, she’s obviously a whole heck of a lot better.  And there’s a ferocious vet bill, over a grand, and I really DON’T want or need that with Christmas coming up.
Susan’s knee is better, [...]

Techincal PrwoblmeZ:

My internet access on Wednesday went to heck in a handbasket for a while.  The Netgear router that is the hub of our house network (4-5 PCs, 3 TiVos and a partridge in a pear tree) has been acting up a lot recently; won’t hold settings and so on.  Finally, I got mad and decided [...]

My computer hates me:

Published by jrittenhouse under cd, computers, microsoft, peeves, tech, winxp

Case Number one: I have been having all sorts of burning problems for a while.  I’m an absolute rat bahstahd about backup stuff, and first the old burner coughed and choked over any media I put in it, getting picky to the point of unusability.  Replaced it with a new Sony DRU-180A.  After a while, [...]

Opinion inertia:

Going back to my response posts,  I want to stress that I never assume that anyone voting against Obama is a racist, or that Republicans are racists, or that either on the Republican ticket is a racist.  I know better.
I’ve lived with serious racists, had racism and sexism used against me and mine (you do [...]

There hadda be a law:

The Anchorage Daily News reports this morning that the State Legislature had to step in and pass a law because of Sarah Palin and her hand-picked Wasilla police chief’s treatment of rape victims, forbidding police departments from charging rape victims for medical exams post-rape. Nowhere else in Alaska was this done but Palin’s Wasilla.  Details [...]

Says it all:

From a meeting between the campaign manager of the McCain campaign and the editorial board of the Washington Post:
“This election is not about issues,” said Davis. “This election is about a composite view of what people take away from these candidates.”

Or - don’t look at the issues, look at the way the spinmasters of [...]

Some more losses:

Published by jrittenhouse under news, peeves, press

As I’ve travelled around, I’ve noted that papers rarely have out-of-town correspondents anymore, and that AP handles the vast bulk of the ‘national and international news’ appearing in 95% of papers in America.  Now, it seems that the AP is pricing itself out of smaller-town newspapers’s reach.

I can understand this position very well:

From Balloon Juice, a regular-read blog on my political list:
I am not a Democrat because I am some sort of crazy liberal who believes in all sorts of left-wing causes. I am a Democrat because in a two-party system, when one party is abso-damn-lutely corrupt, immoral, incompetent, and, well, evil, you have to do what [...]

This didn’t surprise me much:

It seems that John McCain has now become the favorite candidate of Big Oil; his contributions from that end of the universe have massively increased ever since he said that we needed to try and drill our way out of the energy crisis, and to allow the guys in Big Oil to sop up all [...]
