Busy Busy:

Yesterday was my first day out with both feet in REAL shoes; it was snowing in Chicago, and I had to go downtown to have my monthly all-day session with the leukemia docs and get my IVIG treatment.  The two dogs had torn up my sleep a lot the night before with getting up and [...]

New Years:

What I can mention is that the New Year’s Party was a good time, though a little frazzling.    I also spent a good deal of the day in the library with Rich Rostrom, who stayed over and was helping me with getting all of my stuff out of the closet under the stairs in the [...]

Some changes:

I’ve moved back to the land of the living the upstairs, but I’m still housebound, pretty much.  We are sending back the roll-a-bout shortly; the next real use for it would be in three weeks, in any event.  By then, we figure I won’t need it anyhow.   And yes, we’ve getting pictures for posterity of [...]

sNERT:

*snifl* Went to bed around 8:45, and woke up at 10:30 when Susan came to bed - partly because I was stuffed up and couldn’t breathe well through the CPAP, and partly because of the fuss of Susan getting into place and the dog trying to get next to MOMMY for the night.  Looked around [...]

My Eyes! Aaaak!

I have been having a LOT of problems with my eyes recently in regard to reading things, and set up an appointment a while back with the eye doc that the rest of the family sees.  (I’m the only one who didn’t need glasses to function; Susan had LASIK surgery a while back, and does [...]

Squeezing the turkey:

I’m noticing that a lot of my friends-list and others online - and the few I talk to on the phone (man, I am so housebound) - are going to take the holidays easy, cheap and local this year.  Our household will, as usual, trot out to Susan’s aunt Marlyce’s house and do the holiday [...]

Dog home:

The pancreatitis has died down enough to bring Dot home from the vet’s office / animal hospital, and while she’s still shaky, she’s obviously a whole heck of a lot better.  And there’s a ferocious vet bill, over a grand, and I really DON’T want or need that with Christmas coming up.
Susan’s knee is better, [...]

General update:

Yes, I will be at Windycon over the weekend.  I’ll be not-very-mobile. I’ll probably locate a prime lurking post and hang there a lot.  Mere will be with me.
The docs took out the last of the foot stitches, and the wound has come open again, about an inch worth.  The docs and Susan are [...]

Progress:

Went to the doc for another visit re my foot; he says that it’s doing well.  Another three weeks, he’s guessing.  Agh!  That is right on top of Thanksgiving….
The roll-a-bout is doing well, but I have to watch my balance on it.  It’s also very clunky to get in and out of the bathroom.  Very [...]

Back again:

Thanks a lot to everyone for their well-wishes about the surgery.
The surgery itself went pretty well, so far as I can tell, but they had a horrible time getting an IV in; I get dehydrated easily, and they had a heck of a time trying to find a vein.  Multiple attempts, very painful, very rough.
Since [...]

*black cloud*

Been having a lot of difficulty with my injured foot over the last few days, and the podiatrist looked at it today and threw in the towel on the course of therapy I’ve been getting since February.  He said it’s opened up deeper, and he’s bascially decided to operate on the thing and fix it [...]

Trying to have heart:

An interview with Elizabeth Edwards, who is throwing herself into health reform.
A random act of kindness by a stranger - you’re at the airport, and you’re overseas from your new spouse, wanting to get home so bad it hurts.  The airport staff at check-in tells you that your suitcase is way overweight, and that you [...]

*thud*

When I get the mail, I open up the bills, and of course, there’s always a bunch of statements from Blue Cross / Blue Shield on The Bills.  Having a damned expensive year on health costs, due to your Humble Narrator’s health problems, has been also damned painful.  And a LOT of paperwork.  At this [...]

Minor scare:

For the last several weeks, I’ve been undergoing a special treatment for my foot wound that had been seemingly working to heal the thing up; it’s been problematic for six months, and required two operations and a lot of IV and otherwise antibiotics.  But last week, my podiatrist said that he didn’t like what he [...]
