Last Day Out:

27 July, 2010 (06:29) | CLL, I'm-not-making-this-up-you-know, conniej, doctors_nurses, drugs, family, health, health_care, humor, illness, medications, meredith, nebraska, pain-ow, parenting, personal, roller-skating, sports, surgery, susan, tools, travel, weird | By: jrittenhouse

Went to the podiatrist/surgeon on Monday, and he’s leaving in the stitches for longer – I’m a slow healer, and there’s a couple of small gaps in the thing. He’s switched over to a much smaller bandage thing, essentially enough to cover the incision, and has to be redone every day with special silver gel [...]

Prepare for jump (lutz):

Susan and Meredith are supposed to leave tomorrow in the morning for Lincoln, Nebraska, to the roller-skating National competition, and they will have to work really hard to be ready by then. I worry about Susan burning the candle at both ends mentally and physically with this trip, but there’s darn little I can do [...]

Update

6 July, 2010 (16:20) | WWHS, doctors_nurses, drugs, finance, health, health_care, hospital, medications, money, nostalgia, pain-ow, surgery | By: jrittenhouse

..very quick one. In a fair amount of pain from the operation (and doped up with T3), which went well – lost a pint of blood, and assorted parts of my left foot. Can’t use it at all – very strict doctors orders. And for all those asking, no, I won’t be going to the [...]

More updating:

16 June, 2010 (09:02) | Duckon, alabama, birmingham, cons, cousins, delusions, doctors_nurses, family, fandom, friends, health, health_care, hospital, medications, meredith, parenting, personal, sad, sisterfar, surgery, susan, too-darn-much-to-do, travel, twins | By: jrittenhouse

At the present, my LEFT foot surgery has been rescheduled for the 5th of July; hopefully nothing else will blow that out of the water.  My RIGHT foot – well, went to see a podiatrist on that, and he took new X-rays of my foot that show how crippled up it looks (which never fails [...]

Circular motion, redux:

11 June, 2010 (13:43) | CLL, doctors_nurses, drugs, family, health, health_care, hospital, medications, meredith, ohio, pain-ow, parenting, surgery, susan, too-darn-much-to-do, travel | By: jrittenhouse

(1)  The surgery on my LEFT foot is still hanging fire, but this time, it’s because the various docs who had to give me clearance didn’t do so (first due to a goofy EKG that showed up nothing in a stress test, and then due to a white count that is pretty comparable with what [...]

Yes, again…

28 February, 2010 (10:25) | CLL, disease, doctors_nurses, drugs, health, health_care, hospital, illness, medications, pain-ow, personal, sad | By: jrittenhouse

Going to the emergency room with another leg infection, this time from a gash on my right leg…been doing what I could to reduce things over the last few days since I got the gash, but it’s getting red and heating up. You can’t imagine how upset and annoyed I am about this.    More later; [...]

Health: not as bad as you thought

19 November, 2009 (07:51) | disease, doctors_nurses, family, flu, health, health_care, hospital, illness, medications, meredith, pandemic | By: jrittenhouse

…cross fingers and all that.    My earlier post on this talked about dealing with a new set of docs at Edward Hospital, and so far, it’s paying off.  I’m on long-range doses of penicillin for the near future, about 2g a day (broken into four pills) and have to wash myself down with Hibiclens (surgical [...]

Home front:

22 October, 2009 (17:05) | chicago, disease, doctors_nurses, drugs, flu, health, illinois, lisle, medications, meredith, pandemic, susan | By: jrittenhouse

Meredith came home early today sick to her stomach and running just under 100F; the H1N1 still isn’t available out here except a trickle with the public health departments, and there’s been some deaths with teenagers (usual serious swine flu symptoms).   I can’t take the live virus nose spray, and that’s all that’s available. Susan [...]

Glimmerings:

20 October, 2009 (13:33) | CLL, disease, doctors_nurses, drugs, health, hospital, illness, medications, pain-ow | By: jrittenhouse

On Saturday, I started getting the red splotchy stuff, and it was really apparent Sunday noonish that it wasn’t going away and my body temp was going up in the area, and so on…so we went off to Edward Hospital in Naperville – to get a fresh set of eyes on the situation, since I [...]

Released:

16 September, 2009 (12:03) | conniej, daoffice, disease, doctors_nurses, health, health_care, medications, meredith, parenting, susan | By: jrittenhouse

Back home last night; feeling logy and icky today and sleeping most of the day.  Meredith seems to be getting out from under the strep throat, Susan seems to be coming down with it, and Connie’s leaving today for out of town till Saturday or so (long-expected absence, but a horrible time for it).  I [...]

Rerun redux:

13 September, 2009 (11:06) | CLL, disease, doctors_nurses, drugs, health, health_care, illness, medications, meredith, parenting, susan | By: jrittenhouse

Back in the Hospital since Friday night with cellulitis of the lower leg again; this went from a reddish splotch the size of a quarter on my ankle to covering my lower leg in about 10 hours.  Usual treatments and I’ll probably be home again in a day or so from now, but what the [...]

Overloads:

28 August, 2009 (17:28) | CLL, glasses, health, illness, medications, meredith, parenting, susan | By: jrittenhouse

Part two of the light posting recently has been that I’ve been up and down a lot due to medical stuff of sorts – more that I’ve been taking a fair amount of stuff, including some powerful antibiotic therapy to Make Sure the Bugs Died and also Lasix for fluid buildup and it’s really knocked [...]

Not to be over the top, but…

22 August, 2009 (17:45) | CLL, disease, doctors_nurses, drugs, fears, health, health_care, illness, j-c-on-a-pogo-stick, pain-ow, personal, surgery | By: jrittenhouse

This is the sort of thing that was worrying me about my infections back at the beginning of summer.

Glunk:

21 July, 2009 (05:41) | children, conniej, cousins, disease, doctors_nurses, drugs, family, health, health_care, illness, medications, meredith, parenting, susan | By: jrittenhouse

Both of the kids do, indeed, have sinus infections (probably as a result of their not taking care of themselves with bad allergic sinus reactions to pollens, etc.) and both are sick and cranky.   And both are on antibiotics; Mere still can’t handle pills, so we end up trying to see what we can get [...]

MRSA fears:

18 July, 2009 (23:41) | disease, health, medications | By: jrittenhouse

Not mine, but the fears of this woman who has a baby die on her from MRSA, and the larger story of how the bug spreads in the article.
