Gonzo as victim

..of the Bush administration, a casualty of the war on terror, troubled and victimized soul that he is.

Bobby Rush…

…now thinks that the nomination of Burris to the Senate is of vital importance To All African Americans everywhere, and he Just Got Over His Outrage at Blago.  I agree with Ta-Nehisi Coates on this; this is ridiculous.

It catches up with you:

Hedge Fund founder who lost a serious bundle in the Madoff ponzi scheme commits suicide, and no, he didn’t jump out a window.
The radical Israeli settlers in the West Bank are a political nightmare that any government will have serious problems with and neither main party coalition wants to deal with.  Of course, government policies [...]

House of Saddam:

HBO production and presently running on that network.  My take on it is that it’s a once-funny;  I have a hard time watching gangster movies because I really don’t get off on people beating and killing each other, especially if the people involved doing the beating are serious scum.   This is SOPRANOS GO BAGHDAD; [...]

Surprises-not:

No more Polaroid film.  Digital’s killed it.
Whole Paycheck Foods is having problems, and people are going for store generics everywhere in grocery stores.
Mark Penn can’t imagine how he hurt the Clinton campaign for President.

Can’t be my fault, must be yours:

Zimbabwe is a complex subject, and the complexities have gotten a whole lot rougher on the inhabitants as time passes by.   Europeans under Cecil Rhodes marched in in the ned of the 1800s and took control of the land from the local chiefs, and passed out all sorts of claims to white settlers, who set [...]

GM, Redux:

So here’s my ideas, half-baked:

Make the deal comprehensive, and mostly a take it or leave it scenario.  This sucker has been a political football for decades, and this ends here right now.
All three companies essentially go into a central, nationalized receivership corporation.
The equity in these businesses is pretty much gone, in any event.  [...]

The return of Liar’s Poker:

WIth a tip of the hat to Rich Johnson, I think that the two books that best exemplify to me the whole Wall Street scene / banking world were LIARS POKER and FUNNY MONEY.    The author of the former just put out a fantastic article in Portfolio Magazine, which I highly recommend.  A brief set [...]

Over The Top:

Panic in various circles over the mistaken notion that ‘Obama’s going to shut down gun shops and confiscate our guns‘.
Various people who were proclaiming Obama’s victory in  OMG terms now doing a ‘never mind’ response.

I look terrible in a dashiki:

Back when I was in high school, some of the kids thought I was half black, because of the curly hair.  Which was interesting, because the dark and curly part came from my father, who was *not* very *ah* progressive in his feelings about black people.
One of the things that struck me as the most [...]

Well put:

Another blogger had the perfect comments on last night’s Presidential debate; excerpts after the cut. I thought McCain (with a lot of audible steaming around, twitching and grimacing, looking like he was going to burst) came across as incoherent and rambling and incredibly cranky.  I also know his voting record enough to throw rocks at [...]
