Reading materials on Huckabee’s Tax plan:
Most of us have never heard of this, but basically, Huckabee is a convert to the idea of the ‘Fair Tax’, a term that I’m going to avoid here in the discussion because it’s like ‘pro-life’ or ‘pro-choice’ – a politically loaded term that ingratiates the idea that this particular tax is ‘fair’ over and above other taxes. My feeling is that before you start saying such a thing, you should understand what exactly is involved with it.
The basic idea is to eliminate the Internal Revenue Code and the IRS and income tax in general, and replace it with a national sales tax of around 30% on everything, over and above all other sales taxes. (Americans pay a national sales tax on certain items, but they may not understand that that is what those are.)
