The Corsican Vendetta
…one of the odder bits of history I’ve run across recently was due to my old pal Rich Rostrom digging up an old docudrama called VENDETTA from 1942. I thought that the story sounded too hokey and decided to check it out…and so far, it’s generally checking out.
The short version is that a family political feud that started in Corsica between the Bonapartes and the Pozzo di Borgo over Corsican ambitions to be an independent nation resulted in one of the Pozzo di Borgo becoming the particular nemesis of Napoleon Bonaparte from the beginnings of his French political career – through direct and passionate involvement with the British, Austrian, Russian and Swedish governments, he was a player over the next 20 years in the fall of Napoleon, endlessly warning and pushing and strategizing. Interesting stuff.
