Review of Neil Young’s new toast-Bush album (which, as a Neil Young freak and a toast-Bush fan, I intend to buy right away) and Young himself in a video interview on the album’s material.

Elsewhere, George “It’s Hard Work” Bush, the oil man, and surrounded by oilmen, is saying too bad, it’s going to be a “Tough Summer“, and whaddya think he can do about oil and gasoline prices? “While the oil companies deny any manipulation, public confidence was eroded at the recent report that exiting Exxon Mobil executive Lee Raymond was getting a 400 million dollar retirement package.”

Now, go Google the phrase “Mobil profits” and see what you find. And here’s a repeat of Senator Obama on Bush’s oil policy

Now, after the President’s last State of the Union, when he told us that America was addicted to oil, there was a brief moment of hope that he’d finally do something on energy. I was among the hopeful. But then I saw the plan.

His funding for renewable fuels is at the same level it was the day he took office. He refuses to call for even a modest increase in fuel-efficiency standards for cars. And his latest budget funds less then half of the energy bill he himself signed into law – leaving hundreds of millions of dollars in under-funded energy proposals.

This is not a serious effort. Saying that America is addicted to oil without following a real plan for energy independence is like admitting alcoholism and then skipping out on the 12-step program. It’s not enough to identify the challenge – we have to meet it.

How did he resist saying “BwahahahaHAA!” right after his statement that America was addicted to oil? He must have been squirming with delight like a puppy with no tail.

Which, of course, is exactly what George W. Bush ALSO did. He got “born again” and gave up alcohol (at least publicly), but never attended any kind of organized 12-step or rehab program in the process. I get the feeling that 12-step programs and rehab would involve a level of self-examination that Dubya just wouldn’t be comfortable with – i.e., ANY.
